This was a project very close to our hearts: our home. It is, and will always be, a work in progress. It is filled with art, souvenirs and antiques we’ve collected over the years and with two young children, it’s as unfussy and practical as possible.
As the second in a set of townhouses, we embraced whatever natural light was available – whether it be bright and abundant or lending itself to a moodier, cosier feel in other parts. The design was very much inspired by the concept of “Chiaroscuro”, the treatment of contrasting light and shadow in art and the idea that both dark and light spaces can co-exist in the one home. By the same token, we juxtaposed the existing architectural features of the house with more contemporary and industrial features, using a variety of natural textures such as lime wash, rattan, jute, linen and wood to add warmth and turn this house into a home.
